Communicate From Anywhere With Smartphones

Are you preparing to trade in your PDA and cellphone for a Smartphone? Here are the basics…

A Smartphone is basically a cellphone and PDA combined, allowing regular phone communication along with email and text messaging. Internet, fax, and data transfers between your office computer and the Smartphone are also included. There are some pros and cons to consider when preparing to switch over to the Smartphone solution:

Smartphone Internet Makes it Easier

Carrying just a Smartphone, there’s one less thing to lose. You have Internet access to check email, search for directions, or quickly find info. Scaled-down versions of popular computer applications are available. You use a keyboard instead of a phone pad, making it easier to type longer messages with ease.

Some Things to Consider About the Smartphone

The initial investment is about three times as much as a regular mobile phone including the additional fees for the network service access which supports Smartphone features. If you’re hooked on a small mobile phone, the Smartphone may seem large and awkward for calling. It may take a bit of time to get used to using the Smartphone. It can be a bit difficult to read text-heavy messages on the smaller screen. Navigating around the Smartphone and using all of the features requires a bit of a learning curve. Ready to invest in a Smartphone? Which one will you buy and what factors affect your decision?

Selecting the Right Service Contract is Critical

Before purchasing hardware, examine the plans that various service providers are offering very carefully. If you plan to purchase the hardware and plan together, you may get a good discount. Evaluate your plan coverage and usage fees as charges can be costly. It’s important to know exactly what the terms are before the first the bill arrives.

Then Choose Your Smartphone Model

After selecting a plan which suits you, your choice of a Smartphone model will be narrowed. Which features are unnecessary for you? The MP3 player and camera may be nice to have, but the big files could clog up memory and make browsing the Internet very slow.

Is the Smartphone Really for You?

Allow some time to play around with the device, to make sure your Smartphone is easy to use. If it isn’t, you may want to add a Bluetooth device to the set-up. Consider the weight of the Smartphone. It’s nice to have lots of memory, but is the device so unpleasant to carry that you wouldn’t use it? Look at how things are organized on the Smartphone. Does it make sense o you? Can you to find what you want? You may consider purchasing additional software for your Smartphone to customize it to your personal style.

Smartphone Synchronicity

Now that you have a Smartphone, there is free software available; but the standard for Smartphone synching appears to be Microsoft Windows Mobile for Smartphones 5.0. For a review of the Smartphones packaged with Microsoft Windows Mobile, visit Microsoft online.

Be Sure To Benefit When You Upgrade Your Smartphone

Every year millions of us are lucky enough to consider an upgrade of our Smartphone, to keep in touch with the evolving technology, which nowadays moves at quite a pace. Through this time we can often get so wrapped up in the new phone we are going to receive that we don´t stop to think for a moment what to do with the old one. I would like to offer some advice that will lead to two great beneficiaries when you upgrade a Smartphone or cell phone to keep up to date with technology, yourself and the environment.

Firstly, many people do one of the two greatest mistakes that can be done when you upgrade your Smartphone; put the phone in the drawer to gather dust and clutter you’re a storage space, or even worse throw it to the trash. We will discuss the effect of the second of these shortly, but first it has to be said that when you upgrade to a newer Smartphone there is money to be made from the old phone, meaning a great benefit for you, and an upgraded Smartphone at a discounted price.

The number of phones, including Smartphones that are dumped in to landfills each years is astonishing, and growing, however you can play your part in being green and helping the environment whilst getting paid for it and enjoy your Smartphone upgrade knowing you got your new phone for a great price and helped the planet – If everybody that upgraded their Smartphone was to do this we could make a tremendous impact on the e-waste issues with just this method, so please be sure to spread the word to your friends and colleagues.

The process is simple and can be done before, or during your Smartphone upgrade, from the comfort of your own home you just visit a website, fill out some simple forms and they send you the packaging to return your old Smartphone – free of charge, they cover all costs of packaging, shipping and insurance (providing you select the correct company to trade with). I recommend a site that deals with just Smartphone trades, this way you know you are getting a dedicated service from a professional team, and this for sure, will make your Smartphone upgrade an easy and enjoyable experience.

So when you upgrade your Smartphone don´t let the old one sit and gather dust, or release harmful toxins into our planet, be constructive, be economic,  be green, and most importantly, be paid for it. Visit www.cashforsmartphones.com and see just how simple it is to turn your old phone into cash to reimburse you for your recent or upcoming Smartphone upgrade.

What can Windows mobile 6 voip do for you?

You might be wondering why you should even bother thinking about getting Windows mobile 6 voip on your smartphone.  After all, your phone works just fine as it is, right?  You can do all the necessary things on it that you want to, like take pictures and store music and surf the net and check your email.  Why bother downloading more stuff onto it that you probably don’t need?  Well, Windows mobile 6 voip isn’t just stuff.  It is stuff that will allow you to get even more out of your smartphone than you already do, and that’s saying something.  You probably didn’t even think that was possible.  Well, I can promise you that it is.

Windows mobile 6 voip doesn’t just improve the functionality of your smartphone, although that is, of course, a large part of why you should get it.  Windows mobile 6 voip will make surfing the net from your smartphone faster and easier as well as give you access to even more applications and functions.  However, that is not the best thing about Windows mobile 6 voip.  Oh no.  Downloading this little gem to your smartphone will allow you to do two things, both of which are becoming increasingly important in today’s world.  In fact, to some people, these two things are the mainstay of their lives.  Windows mobile 6 voip will help you to improve your communications and, best of all, it will let you save money in the process.

How?  Well, it’s simple really.  Windows mobile 6 voip will improve your communications by allowing you to make voice telephone calls from your smartphone over the internet instead of via the cell phone network.  This means that when you are buried deep inside a skyscraper or wallowing in decadent luxury at a spa in the middle of nowhere, both locations being far from ideal from the point of view of a cell phone signal, you can make a call from your smartphone by using a wireless internet connection, instead of being dependent on the cell phone network.  This means that even when everybody else’s cell phone is useless, you can still keep in touch, which means you won’t be left out of the loop.

How will Windows mobile 6 voip save you money?  Well, think about it.  The cell phone company charges you a huge amount every time you use your smartphone to make a call.  You have to pay a lot of money to make a call and if you are anywhere far from home, the cell phone company will also charge you to receive calls as well.  You really pay, literally, for staying in touch via your smartphone.  But Windows mobile 6 voip changes all that.  When you make a call using Windows mobile 6 voip you don’t make it via the cell phone network.  It goes out via the internet so your cell phone minutes aren’t affected.  This means that you pay a tiny fraction of the amount you would normally pay to make a call.  These savings will quickly add up and you will soon wonder how you did without Windows mobile 6 voip.

Blackberry Storm Review: First Full Screen Touch Phone From Blackberry

It may seem like the iPhone may have the full touch screen smartphone market cornered. There aren’t many phones to choose from in this family. It takes a very innovative company to release a rival full touch screen smartphone. Blackberry offers consumers such a rival. The RIM Blackberry Storm is one of the latest additions to the full touch screen smartphone line. It is the first full touch screen cell phone from Blackberry. Blackberry entered the race with a complete set of advantages and feature set it has brought along with from its impressive Blackberry smartphone line. With its impressive list of features and low price the RIM Blackberry Storm will make a great phone for anyone who is looking for an affordable replacement to the iPhone. But the Storm also does come with a list of minor problems that can hamper a person’s enjoyment of the phone.

The RIM Blackberry Storm is quite similar to the iPhone in its design and look. The notable differences are that the Storm is shorter and heavier than the iPhone. Also there are standard phone controls located under the display screen. The biggest achievement is the Storms utilization of SurePress technology. This allows the user to perform functions by actually clicking on the screen instead of just tapping it. Unfortunately clicking on the screen does take a while to get used to because honestly clicking on the screen feels awkward. Also anyone with big hands or fingers might have trouble typing messages because the keyboard that is displayed is quite small and the letters are crammed together. Those accustom to trackball navigator might miss it as it is absent on the RIM Blackberry Storm.

The RIM Blackberry Storm offers the same features found on all previous Blackberry phones. It continues offering its users an amazing operating system and even upgrades it from the previous installment. The user is able to use and open various Microsoft Office files such as Word, Excel and even Power Point. As with previous Blackberry phones the Storm is able to link with your company’s Blackberry Enterprise Server allowing you access to corporate emails and files. The phone can even act as a wireless modem for laptops. It is an amazing application which costs only a month.

The phone feels as if it was rushed to be released just in time for the holidays because there are a lot of bugs and small glitches. The accelerometer needed more work. Switching the phone to and from landscape mode was fine but websites took a while to change screen position. The multimedia controls are also affected by this. When rotating the phone the controls sometimes appeared to be flashing and even disappear from the screen at one point. Aside from the accelerometer websites generally took a while to load and certain apps were sluggish upon launching.

As far as the phone performance the RIM Blackberry Storm did great. Callers can enjoy clear and crisp calls. The voices on the other end will sound very well. Also your voice will sound clear to your caller as well. The microphone is great at isolating and not picking up background noise.

The RIM Blackberry Storm could use more work. There have been promises of firmware upgrades which will fix many of the bugs found on this phone. While the updates to fix some of the problems they don’t address all of them. But for the price of the phone and amazing capabilities it is still a reasonable buy. Just be sure to get the firmware upgrade if you decide to purchase this phone.

VoIP for your Loved Ones

VoIP has more benefits than just work-related advantages. It has entered our households, our leisure zones and in many other different things that are associated with our lives and lifestyle. VoIP has helped the anxious mother stay in touch with her sons and daughters living abroad, on a day-to-day basis. VoIP has helped the wife to stay connected with her husband (touring to different countries) and ensure his well-being. VoIP has enabled the boyfriend (transferred to another country with job) to speak to his girlfriend for long hours. VoIP is helping us to do all that plus much more.

VoIP comes in various avatars. You can utilise VoIP services through your computer or laptop with Internet connection. Now you have VoIP enabled phones. Some VoIP phones come with Skype facilities while others have Messenger service. VoIP phones can be used both for chatting as well as calling. It is as simple as using Skype or Messenger through your computer. The only difference is that you do not require your laptop or desktop to use VoIP. All you need is an Internet connection; one can also use VOIP enabled phones for call termination.

Apart from VoIP phones, you can also use VoIP in Smartphones, PDAs and palmtops. These devices, some of them at least, come with ready VoIP facilities. However, an important thing to remember while deploying VOIP services is the Internet connection. You can get this connection through any VOIP service providers. There are numerous service providers out there. But you have to be careful while choosing one. You have to see the services provided by each of them and whether they can meet your requirements. Also, the rates part is important – do not forget to check that out. Having done that, you can select one service provider and enjoy VoIP facilities to your heart’s content.

Yesterday, word came down from Toyota headquarters that 2.3 million Toyota-brand cars, trucks, and SUVs (as well as the 2009 Pontiac Vibe) are part of a new voluntary recall (NHTSA Campaign ID number: 10V017000) to address a mechanical problem that could lead to stuck accelerators. Be advised that yesterday’s recall is entirely separate from the even larger November floormat-related recall affecting over 4 million vehicles, which was issued in response to a nationally-publicized unintended acceleration problem.

Owners take note: According to Toyota, 1.7 million vehicles are affected by both recalls, so if you were in for the floormat recall, you may well need to go back in again for this new issue, which is mechanical in nature and can, once again, result in unintended acceleration. Note also that  the present time, Toyota has not yet determined what the exact repair solution will be, saying only that they are “working quickly to prepare the correction remedy.”

Reviewer Comments: So this December my wife and I took a safari trip to Kenya. Our vehicle got stuck in the mud by Lake Naivasha. I got out to assist our driver with my brown sketchers ankle-deep in mud. When we finally returned to our hotel, I took off my shoes and can you believe my socks were dry! I love Sketchers.

My first sketchers lasted 6-yrs. I used it mainly for long distance/highway driving coz the thick soles acts like a damper so my foot doesn’t hurt for stepping on gas for hours. Inside, the shoe is ergonomically-designed coz my foot feels comfortable inside. I’ve tried a different brand but abandaned it coz my foot hurt like crazy! I love wearing them with padded/running socks which have an added layer at the bottom for extra comfort. The weight of the shoes are not a problem. Did I mention they’re very stylish too! I told my wife, I should make a collection of sketchers shoes, coz I love’em!

In typical 404 fashion, this morning’s show started later than usual, mostly because we couldn’t shut up about all the things that made the 1990s one of the best decades ever.

Some of the conversation leaks into the beginning of the episode, including a chat about the evolution of video games since the ’90s. It’s hard to imagine a time before you needed a toy chest to hold all the plastic instruments you need play a simple game!

You can get your 404 fix every day of the week (thanks to Nick for the image above!), but the most random stories always end up on Friday. Today is no different, with Wilson’s first story about mysterious cookies that offer “natural supplemental endowment.” Called the F Cup Cookie, the treat is quickly gaining popularity in Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore, because of their promise to increase bust size in three weeks or less! Rest assured, we’ve already ordered three boxes to test the claims ourselves.

Should the film industry provide heart health warnings prior to showing movies with heavy 3D imagery? It might be worth the discussion, especially after a 42-year-old Taiwanese man died after watching “Avatar” in 3D.

The man started to feel uneasy during the screening of “Avatar” in 3D and was quickly taken to a hospital where a scan showed a brain hemorrhage. Sadly, the man died 11 days later. Doctors reported that “the over-excitement from watching the movie triggered his symptoms,” a claim that opens up our conversation about possible preshow warnings.

We’ve spent all week stuffing your SASEs full of 404 stickers, and if you already got yours in the mail it’s YOUR turn to do some work for US! Take a picture of where you stuck your 404 sticker(s) and tattoo(s) and send it to us at the404(at)cnet(dot)com. If you do, there’s a good chance we’ll show it on the air!
