Question by Carnof: Stainless steel upgrade?
We are buying a new townhouse and I am wondering how much people pay for an upgrade from black kitchen appliances to stainless steel appliances. This will include a fridge, stove, dishwasher and built-in microwave. As we are in Canada, I am looking for the price of upgrades in this country as I know it will be lower in the US.

I’m on a budget with my new kitchen and am getting appliances used. The kitchen is white quartz counter with dark walnut-shade cabinets. It is U-shaped. You you consider doing a stainless steel fridge and stainless steel dishwasher on one side of the U, with a white cooktop and white double wall oven on the other side of the U? I like stainless steel but at the same time, I feel like the white cooktop looks better built-in to the white counter.. if mixing won’t work- what would you go for- all SS or all white? I’m going for a mid-century modern look..

Answer by woodtick314 Go with what you have, for now. You can always get new appliances down the road. Live with them for awhile, and you will be able to determine which you like. When I built my house, I put together a package from the Maytag store. I went with all white, except for the dishwasher, It’s in the middle of a run of hickory cabinets, and I thought the white would look funny, so I ordered black. They called me 3 times to confirm that I wanted a black dishwasher. It looks great though. Hope this helps.

When I go out on service calls for preventive maintance checks on washers and I noticed the rubber fills hoses that connect to the washer would get bubbles in them, some small, some large. After time those will burst and start flooding your laundry area and if your laundry room is in your house that can be quite the mess and cause massive floor damage to say the least.
So I recommend you check your washing machine fill hoses every year, and replace them if you notice bubbles. Stainless steel fill hoses are the best to get as they won’t get those bubbles in them.

i bought a brand new house in feb 2007 the thing is i got the basic…”white” kitchen appliances, carpet and vinyl floorings…
I only have ,500 right now…which is a smarter choice? should i just
replace the floorings with a new hardwood laminate or buy silver metalic appliances(can’t really afford the real stainless so im just going for the metallic) i found a package at this one store ,500 (includes refrigetaror,microwave,oven & dishwasher by FRIGEDAIRE )

Answer by Lawnboy & Luna I’d go with the flooring. While it is, or was, all the rage to get stainless appliances, a lot of people have some regret over picking such. They are difficult to keep clean, and even fingerprints make them look kind of awful.
If I were you, I’d do nothing now, and save up for a granite countertop. Figure in ,000 for a small L-kitchen. It is by far the biggest single impact you can make in your kitchen, and will make even your basic white appliances look prettier by being next to it.
Question by Susan: What manufacturer makes stainless steel appliances?
I am looking to replace my dishwasher and buy a new gas range. In a perfect world, I would like a gas range that is stainless steel on the top AND on the interior. I would also like to have the same manufacturer for all of my kitchen appliances.
I was at Home Depot today and saw a GE “Cafe” gas range that was very nice, but the interior was porcelain.
